1. Agreement and eligibility
These Terms are an agreement between you and Shounak Ghosh, the operator of Sophist AI in India (“Sophist”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). By creating an account, using the service, or purchasing a subscription, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Sophist.
You must be at least 12 years old. If you are below the age at which you can enter this agreement where you live, your parent or legal guardian must review and agree to these Terms for you and supervise your use as appropriate. If Indian law applies and you are under 18, your parent or legal guardian must agree to your use of Sophist.
If you use Sophist for a school, employer, or other organisation, you confirm that you have authority to accept any terms on its behalf.
2. The service and your account
Sophist turns syllabi into topic trees, generated study articles, and contextual AI chat. Features can change as we improve the service. We may add, remove, limit, or update features, provided we do not take away a paid entitlement without an appropriate remedy required by applicable law.
You sign in through Google. You are responsible for the activity on your account, for keeping the linked Google account secure, and for giving accurate information. Tell us promptly at hello@sophistai.app if you believe your account has been compromised.
3. AI-generated content
Sophist uses artificial intelligence to create topic structures, articles, answers, summaries, and other output. AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, misleading, or unsuitable for your circumstances. Similar or identical output may be generated for other users.
Use Sophist as a study aid, not as the sole source of truth. Check important claims against course materials and reliable sources. Do not rely on Sophist for medical, legal, financial, safety-critical, or other professional decisions. Sophist does not guarantee grades, exam results, learning outcomes, or the accuracy of AI output.
4. Your content
You retain any rights you have in the syllabi, prompts, chats, and other material you submit (“Your Content”). You give Sophist a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, copy, process, transmit, and display Your Content only as needed to operate, secure, support, and improve the service for you and to meet legal obligations.
You confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed to submit Your Content and to let us process it. Do not upload confidential material, personal data about someone else, exam papers, copyrighted works, or other content unless you are authorised to do so.
Sophist does not use your syllabi, generated articles, or chats to train its own or third-party AI models. The way we process content is described in the Privacy Policy.
5. Acceptable use
You must not use Sophist to:
- break the law or infringe another person’s rights;
- harass, exploit, threaten, defraud, impersonate, or harm another person;
- create or distribute malware, evade security controls, probe for vulnerabilities without permission, or disrupt the service;
- access another person’s account or data, scrape the service at scale, or bypass access, rate, or subscription limits;
- reverse engineer or copy Sophist except where applicable law expressly allows it; or
- misrepresent AI-generated work as your own where doing so breaches academic rules, professional duties, or the law.
We may investigate suspected misuse and take proportionate action, including limiting or suspending access.
6. Subscriptions and billing
The paid Sophist plan costs ₹499 (INR) for each three-month billing period. There is no free trial. Unless you cancel before the next renewal date, the subscription automatically renews for another three-month period and the payment method on file is charged. The checkout and account portal show your applicable price, taxes, renewal date, and payment details.
Dodo Payments is the merchant of record and legal seller for your purchase. Dodo processes the payment, applicable indirect taxes, invoices, payment disputes, and refunds. Your purchase is also governed by the terms shown at checkout and Dodo Payments’ buyer terms. If Dodo’s buyer terms conflict with these Terms on payment processing, Dodo’s terms govern that transaction, subject always to your non-waivable rights under applicable law.
We may change the subscription price or plan for a future renewal. We will provide advance notice when required by law, and a price change will not alter a billing period you have already paid for.
7. Cancellation and refunds
You can cancel through the subscription-management option provided in Sophist or Dodo Payments’ customer portal. Cancellation stops future renewals and normally takes effect at the end of your current paid billing period. Deleting the app or stopping use does not by itself cancel a subscription.
To request a refund, email hello@sophistai.app with the account email and transaction details. Refunds are reviewed case-by-case with Dodo Payments under the terms presented at purchase. Nothing in these Terms limits any refund, cancellation, cooling-off, chargeback, or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
8. Deletion and termination
You may stop using Sophist or delete your account. Account deletion removes the account and associated Sophist app data as described in the Privacy Policy, subject to restricted backups and records that Sophist or its providers must retain for legal, tax, fraud-prevention, transaction, or dispute purposes. Delete your account only after exporting anything you want to keep; deletion is permanent.
We may restrict, suspend, or terminate access if you materially or repeatedly breach these Terms, create a security or legal risk, fail to pay, or if we are required to do so by law. Where reasonable, we will give notice and an opportunity to address the issue. We may also discontinue Sophist, in which case we will provide any notice or remedy required by applicable law.
9. Sophist ownership
Sophist, including its software, interface, branding, design, and service content, is owned by Shounak Ghosh or licensed to him and is protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Except for the limited right to use the service under these Terms, no rights in Sophist are transferred to you.
If you send feedback or suggestions, you allow us to use them without restriction or compensation, but you are not required to provide feedback.
10. Disclaimers
Sophist is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation. We do not promise that content will always be saved, that every feature will always be available, or that AI output will be accurate.
These disclaimers do not exclude warranties, guarantees, or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded, including mandatory consumer protections.
11. Limits on liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sophist and its operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive loss, or for loss of profits, opportunities, goodwill, or data arising from your use of the service.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability arising from Sophist will not exceed the amount you paid for the service in the three months immediately before the event giving rise to the claim. This limit does not apply to fraud, wilful misconduct, or any liability or remedy that applicable law does not allow us to limit.
12. Law, changes, and contact
These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without limiting any mandatory consumer protection that applies where you live. Courts and consumer forums will have jurisdiction as determined by applicable law. Before starting a formal dispute, we encourage you to contact us so we can try to resolve it, but this does not shorten a legal deadline or limit your right to seek a lawful remedy.
We may update these Terms as Sophist or the law changes. We will post the revised Terms with a new effective date and give additional notice when required. Material changes normally apply prospectively. If you do not agree to revised Terms, you should stop using Sophist and cancel before the next renewal.
If part of these Terms is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the agreement between you and Sophist about your use of the service, alongside the separate payment terms presented by Dodo Payments.
